Today, the Performance Marketing Association (PMA) released a highly anticipated report that spotlights the profitable growth of the performance marketing industry in the United States; the results are truly exceptional.

The study, which was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in conjunction with the PMA, was compiled using information and data provided by seven top affiliate marketing networks, including LinkConnector.

The report covers a wide range of timely affiliate marketing related topics including total spending, total revenue contribution, return on ad spend (ROAS), channel investments by advertisers, and of course, key industry trends.

Here are just a few of the many eye-opening takeaways from this report:

  • Affiliate marketing investment hit $9.1 Billion in 2021–a 47% increase from the previous report in 2018
  • Retail accounted for 84% of total revenue and 76% of the total ad spend by sector
  • The Cashback/Loyalty/Rewards publisher model received the highest ad spend at 35%
  • The average return on ad spend (ROAS) across all performance marketing sectors was 12:1
